A crease happens when an impact runs along or crosses one of your vehicle's body lines, the sharp design edges that run the length of a door or fender. The reason creases are harder has to do with how the metal actually moves. A body line is already under more stress than a flat panel, so when it gets bent, the paint around it is stretched more than paint on a flat dent would be. Push it back the wrong way and you risk cracking the clear coat, which turns a paintless job into a paint job. The metal has to be worked carefully so the factory finish stays intact.
Crease repair takes patience. The technician has to judge how much a body line can take before the paint needs a different approach, not just the same method used on a simple door ding. We'd rather take the extra time to do a crease correctly than rush it and hand you a car with a subtle wave still visible in the light.
Depending on the crease, the repair may combine work from behind the panel and a pull from the painted side where access underneath is limited. It's slower and more deliberate than repairing a flat panel, which is why creases take longer to quote and longer to finish than a straightforward ding.
Not every crease can be fully corrected without some paint work, and we'll always tell you honestly if that's the case before we start.
